Noted cardiac surgeon Dr M D Dixit has appealed to Goans to leave their Susegad lifestyle and turn to a healthy lifestyle for a fit body and healthy heart.

He has also urged Goans to stay away from red meat, liquor and smoking and have plenty of fish, fruits and vegetables.

Dr Dixit, MD & CEO of Arihant Hospital in Belagavi, who has been involved in scores of heart surgeries, was speaking to The Goan on the occasion of World Heart Day on Monday.

Highlighting the importance of self-precautionary and preventive measures, Dr Dixit urged people to take proactive steps to protect their heart.

“Cardiovascular disease remains the number one cause of death worldwide, but most cases can be prevented with timely lifestyle changes,” Dr Dixit said.

He emphasised that simple habits, healthy eating, daily exercise, quitting tobacco, and managing stress can go a long way in reducing risk.

“I urge Goans to refrain from a Susegad lifestyle, stay away from red meat, alcohol and smoking, avoid a sedentary lifestyle and avoid multiple snacking, and enhance physical activity,” Dr Dixit advised.

He also raised concern about the rising number of heart ailments in the region.

“A few years back, it was the son who was hospitalising the father; however, the situation has now changed, as there is an alarming rise of heart attacks and ailments among youngsters in their 30s and 40s,” Dr Dixit said.

He also advised people to remain alert to warning signs like chest discomfort, breathlessness, fatigue, or irregular heartbeat.

“Do not delay medical consultation and check-ups. Early diagnosis and treatment can save lives,” he added.

He further advised for balanced meals, avoiding excess salt, sugar, and oil.

“Exercise at least 30 minutes daily. Practice stress management techniques. Monitor blood pressure, sugar, and cholesterol regularly,” Dr Dixit said, giving tips for a healthy heart.

Raising concern as the cases are on the rise in Goa, he said that there is a need for greater awareness for Goans.

“Many patients still seek medical help only after complications arise,” Dr Dixit said. He stressed the importance of preventive checkups and regular monitoring.

Arihant Super Specialty Hospital continues to serve the region with advanced cardiac care facilities and expert treatment.

“Your heart is your responsibility; hence, care for it today to live a healthier tomorrow,” Dr Dixit added.
