The State continued to get drenched with copious amount of rain even as rain-related incidents were reported from various parts of the State.
A car skidded and went off the road and got perched on the divider at Verna while another four-wheeler went off the road in Sanguem.
The fire station personnel were kept on their toes throughout the day as incidents of trees getting uprooted were reported from different parts of the State.
Trees came crashing down on two housed at Ravora, Mandopa in Navelim village and at Sirvodem in the Khareband area.
Vehicular traffic was disrupted at a number of places on Sunday. The Rawanfond traffic junction was inundated with flood waters while the road going to Shantinagar was flooded at the junction.
A major disaster was averted on the NH66 at Dhargal which witnessed a landslide on Sunday noon. Incidentally, the same spot witnessed a landslide last year too.
Part of a huge house at Dattawadi, Mapusa, near Bhagyodaya Hospital came crashing down. Luckily, no one was injured in the incident.
The State received an average rainfall of 58.6 mm on Sunday further reducing the deficit to 19.8 percent.
The centre of Quepem and Sanguem received the highest amount of rain at 120 mm and 98.10 mm respectively. Panaji with 34.3 mm received the least amount of rain in the last 24 hours.
“This is good news as far the monsoon season for the state of Goa is concerned. The southwest monsoon set in Goa only on June 11, and the state had weak monsoon conditions most of the time. The active monsoon spell from June 23 has saved the day for the State,” said Dr Ramesh Kumar, Meteorologist.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed that the State was likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall in the next four days. It also warned that there was a possibility of few places receiving heavy to very heavy rainfall in the same period.
Fishermen have been warned not to venture out into the sea even as winds are expected to be gusty, peaking from 40 to 45 kmph to 55 kmph.
