Several parts of Sattari taluka witnessed heavy showers on Thursday evening, disrupting normal life for some time.

The rain, which lasted for around half an hour, caused traffic disruption on the Goa-Belagavi highway after a tree fell in the Chorla Ghat section. Personnel from the Valpoi fire station rushed to the spot and removed the tree, restoring traffic movement.

The sudden rain also made roads slippery in many areas, leading to minor accidents involving two-wheeler riders. Incidents of riders skidding were reported from Parye and Bimbel-Sattari, with some persons suffering minor injuries.

At Hivre-Sattari, another fallen tree caused temporary obstruction on the road. Strong winds were also reported in some areas. Personnel from the Valpoi fire station later cleared the tree at Hivre-Sattari as well.

According to sources, the weather remained extremely hot throughout the day before sudden rain began around 4 pm in several parts of the taluka. Areas such as Thane, Hivre, Koparde, Valpoi and nearby localities received considerable rainfall.

The unexpected showers caused inconvenience to residents, while several two-wheeler riders were stranded at different places.

During the monsoon season, incidents of fallen trees and landslides are common along the Chorla Ghat highway. Citizens have appealed to emergency management authorities to take preventive measures and improve preparedness ahead of the peak monsoon season.
