Incessant rains brought down more than half a dozen of trees, disrupting traffic and damaging overhead power lines at various places in Bardez.
However, no incidents of major damage were reported from any quarters in the taluka.
The city of Mapusa and the suburbs received widespread rain throughout the day leading to uprooting of trees.
Mapusa fire station staff were on their toes throughout the day in an attempt to clear blockades caused by tree falls.
Reports of trees falling were received from Verla Canca, Guirim, Moira, Nachinola, Pomburpa-Olaulim and Anjuna.
No major complaints of water logging have been reported from Mapusa market.
“There hasn’t been much water logging so far in the market. But we have not received spells of very heavy or continuous rain,” said Ashish Shirodkar of the Mapusa Merchants Association. He said the response from the civic authorities was quite good compared to previous years.
“Officials from the engineering department rush to the spot whenever complaints are made. The response has been quick and it needs to be appreciated,” he said.
