Heavy rains expected in Goa over next 72 hours: Met dept

The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in Goa, the Konkan region and other states, while also warning of rapid rise in water levels of several rivers in the country.

According to a PIB report, rainfall forecast issued by India Meteorological Department indicate that heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy fall are very likely to occur in East Rajasthan (next 48 hrs), West Madhya Pradesh (next 48 hrs), Gujarat, Konkan & Goa (next 72 hrs), Coastal and Ghat areas of South Interior Karnataka (next 48 hrs).
"Due to this rainfall, the rivers Mahi, Sabarmati, Banas, Godavari and its tributaries, Krishna and its tributaries, west flowing rivers south of Tapi, Cauvery and its tributaries are likely to rise and create low to moderate flood in few locations," the PIB report stated on Tuesday.
The likely impact of these rains as inferred from rainfall runoff model run for three days advisory forecast is likely rapid rise in water levels of rivers in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhyapradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamilnadu, Kerala, the met department added.
The met department also forecast that rivers flowing west into Arabian Sea south of Tapi in Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka are also likely to rise and inundate areas in Raigad, Thane, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts of Maharashtra and in Uttara Kannada, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts in Karnataka.
Traffic along the old road and rail bridges along these river reaches have to be strictly regulated, warned the met department.

Several passengers were stranded at Dabolim airport on Tuesday evening, after flights between Mumbai and Goa were delayed on account of inclement weather in Mumbai.

VASCOWith heavy rains flooding several areas, operations at the airport in Mumbai were disrupted and as a result, flights were delayed. This disruption also affected the departures and arrivals of flights along the Mumbai-Goa route at the Dabolim airport.
