Cashew and mango cultivators in Sattari are expecting a good harvest this season, but heavy dew in the last few days and the Tea Mosquito Bug (TMB) could well affect this harvest.
A large number of households in Sattari are directly or indirectly dependent on cashew production.
Unseasonal rains in December had affected the flowering process on cashew and mango trees, but a dry spell in the past few weeks had facilitated this flowering process.
However, heavy dew over the last few days has posed a threat to this flowering process and cultivators are hopeful of a more favourable climate for a better yield of cashews and mangos.
Sattari ZAO Vishwanath Gawas has also emphasised the importance of tackling the Tea Mosquito Bug (TMB), which could also pose a serious threat to the cashew and mango plantations as they affect trees which are in full bloom and has the potential to cause severe loss in yield.
“It is very important to spray pesticides to prevent TMB as it has begun attacking mango and cashew cultivations in some parts of Sattari taluka,” said Gawas.
