A 30-year-old history-sheeter from Majorda, who has been either arrested or is accused in dozens of cases, was nabbed at Gokarna beach in Karnataka.

Goa Police was on the lookout for Agustin Xavier Carvalho, who has been arrested in 25 cases and accused in 20 other cases.

Police received information that Carvalho was staying at Gokarna beach and allegedly leading a lavish lifestyle from the stolen money.

On Monday at around 9.30 pm, a police team consisting of Sub-Inspector Mandar Parab, Constables Vinay Srivastava, Dipesh Komarpant and Sakshi Parab conducted a raid on the rented room.

As soon as he realised that a Goa police team had arrived to nab him, Carvalho escaped through the backdoor of the room and tried to flee through the field. The police team, however, chased him and managed to nab Carvalho.

After notifying the Gokarna city police station, the Goa police took the accused into their custody and he was arrested on charges of snatching a gold chain from a woman on August 4 at 7.30 am.

A similar incident had taken place on August 3 at around 7.45 am at Dhamade-Tivim. An elderly woman had arrived from Panaji to meet her daughter and while she was walking to her daughter’s house, a rider snatched the gold chain from her neck.

After these two incidents, Porvorim and Colvale police were in search of the accused. The face of the bike rider was captured on CCTV footage, enabling police to identify Carvalho.

Police is also on the lookout for a young woman who had accompanied the accused during the chain-snatching incidents.

Police investigations are in progress under the supervision of DySP Vishwesh Karpe and North Goa SP Akshat Kaushal.
