Goa government has launched a mobile HIV/AIDS awareness programme targeting young people in villages and schools. The initiative, an outreach campaign on wheels, will travel through rural areas and educational institutions to spread information on HIV prevention, treatment and reducing stigma. Officials said the focus is on engaging young people, who remain vulnerable to misinformation and risky behaviour.
The campaign comes against the backdrop of the Centre’s target of making India HIV-free by December 2027. The Directorate of Health Services said the mobile programme will complement existing awareness drives and strengthen community participation. The campaign will include posters, interactive sessions and counselling. Health workers will also stress the importance of early testing and adherence to antiretroviral therapy.
Officials said awareness is the first line of defence. By taking the message directly to villages and schools, the programme aims to build a generation better equipped to prevent and fight HIV/AIDS.
