The HMS Richmond arrived in the State as part of its deployment with the UK’s Carrier Strike Group.
The Carrier Strike Group is led by HMS Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier, the most powerful surface vessel in the Royal Navy’s history.
In a press release issued by the British High Commission in New Delhi, the UK Carrier Strike Group conducted three days of at-sea Defence Engagement activity with India.
This was a powerful opportunity for HMS Queen Elizabeth, the task group and Her Majesties Government to engage with India, a vital partner within the Indo-Pacific, while affirming the UK’s commitment to the region.
At 65,000 tonnes, it is the largest surface vessel ever constructed in the UK. It leads six Royal Navy ships, a Royal Navy submarine, a US Navy destroyer and a frigate from the Netherlands in the Carrier Strike Group, the largest concentration of maritime and air power to sail from the UK in a generation.
Currently, all three services “ the army, navy and the air force of both the UK and India are exercising simultaneously in the most ambitious, tri-service exercise “ Konkan Shakti. It is the largest exercise conducted by the two countries to date.
