Congress working president Reginaldo Lourneco has urged Revenue Minister Jennifer Monserrate to extend the term of all the Managing Committees of comunidades all over the State for a further period of another one year so that justice prevails over all those holding the offices, and that it could facilitate in smooth handing over the offices of comunidades to the new management committee in the year 2023, on account of the work practically coming to a halt in the face of Covid pandemic.
In a letter to Revenue Minister Jennifer Monserrate, the Congress legislator from Curtorim said he had put up the matter during Zero Hour Mention in the just concluded two-day sixteenth session of the Goa Legislative Assembly but unfortunately it did not come up for discussion. “This said matter is based on the calls and the messages that I have received from the members of the managing committees of comunidades in Goa to request the State government for extension of their tenure for a further period of one-year ie from December 2021 to December 2022”, he said.
He added: “Concurrently, I also being the member of Comunidades of Goa, I too very well understand the challenges and the problems being faced by its members and its management committees. I have been constantly raising the diverse issues affecting comunidades including the illegalities in the sale and encroachment of comunidade lands across both inside and outside the House of the Goa Legislative Assembly”.
Reginaldo said he is given to understand that the managing committees of comunidades all over Goa which took charge of their office only in March 2019 and have worked practically only for nine months till December 2019 due to the Covid pandemic. “The New inscriptions of Gaunkars as well as the annual Matriculas of Gauncars could not be carried out regularly due to the Covid pandemic since offices could not function”, he added.
