Angry residents have now decided to revolt and block the roads if the culvert is not ready by December 19, which besides being Liberation Day, also marks the local feast celebrated in Hollant.
When contacted, former Velsao-Pale-Issorcim sarpanch Lawrence Rodrigues said the panchayat had no Information about the culvert.
"I wonder if the PWD is even aware of this proposal to build the culvert," said Rodrigues.
"Even the Zuari four-lane bridge is 50% complete in seven months, while our MLA is still struggling with this small culvert here for the last eight months."
"Just two months ago, she had assured that the contractor would take up this culvert. We want this completed by December 19, which is Liberation day and our feast as well, or we along with the villagers will agitate and block roads," warned Rodrigues.
Another local, Theresa Periera, said the footbridge was instrumental during the religious procession of the statue of Our Lady of Vailankanni in the village.
"We got the statue of Our Lady on this footbridge but did not highlight on the media as it would insult a religious occasion. The other longer road is dilapidated and two cars cannot cross at one time," said Periera.
Hollant culvert pending despite assurances; locals threaten stir
