Honouring freedom fighter Bapurao Maroti Maskar

A freedom fighter whose legacy is showcased at the Sinquerim-based Aguad Interactive Museum: Goa “ The Land, The Struggle, The People, Bapurao Maroti Maskar was born on September 28, 1931, at Yarad in Kalamb, Yavatmal, Maharashtra. An agriculturist and dedicated freedom fighter, he was a member of the Praja Socialist Party and later the Janata Party. He took part in the satyagraha at Surla, Goa, on August 15, 1955, under the leadership of Nandkumar Agrawal, A.R. Faruqui, and Ram Tupe. Arrested along with fellow satyagrahis, he was brutally beaten, confined in a dark room, and even thrown into a river by the Portuguese police. For his sacrifices in the liberation movement, he was honoured with the sanmanpatra by the Government of Maharashtra in 1986.
