Curchorem-Cacora Councillor Balkrishna Hodarkar along with some prominent citizens, staged a day-long hunger strike in Curchorem on Friday to protest against the PWD’s failure to repair the deteriorated roads in Curchorem despite serving an ultimatum.
The protest, held under the banner 'Ami Kudchadkar', began at 8 am and concluded in the evening.
Hodarkar stated that he had previously given the government a 15-day ultimatum to fix the badly damaged roads, many of which are currently unmotorable.
However, the PWD's inaction compelled him and others to resort to the hunger strike. He highlighted that Curchorem constituency has suffered from poor road conditions for the past three years, initially due to digging for underground electricity cables and subsequently for underground sewerage works.
He claimed that these dug-up roads remain in a severely poor state, causing distress to citizens.
Hodarkar expressed frustration over the repeated unfulfilled assurances from Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral that repair works would be undertaken soon.
Speakers at the agitation accused Cabral of indifference regarding the ongoing project works in Curchorem, which they feel are detrimental to the local populace.
Another citizen, Damodar Naik, also highlighted similar concerns, claiming things are getting out of hand in Curchorem and accused the MLA of not being bothered about local grievances.
