The OBC Commission is in the final stages of completing the data on OBC reservation for the Panchayat elections and the process is expected to complete in the next 8-10 days.
“Once the process is completed, the State Election Commission (SEC) may issue a fresh amended notification about the reservation of wards, including reservation for OBCs,” said Goa OBC commission Chairman Manohar Adpaikar.
"The OBC reservations will be done and the OBC commission is working on the recommendations.”
Adpaikar said there have been earlier instances where the SEC had issued fresh updated notifications before the nominations were filed.
“In 2012 and 2017, such amended notifications have been issued,” informed Adpaikar.
The SEC’s move to exclude reservations for OBC came in for severe criticism.
Some leaders from the OBC community were even planning to go to court to demand the implementation of reservation for OBC in panchayat elections.
