Hospicio authorities are rushing to shift the casualty and surgery departments to the South Goa district hospital in the commercial capital city before the weekend.
Hospicio medical superintendent Dr Deepa Corriea informed that the trial runs for the state-of-the-art CT-scan at the district hospital has started, adding that the same will be commissioned in the next few days.
She said the casualty and surgery departments, which are still functioning from the old Hospicio hospital building will be shifted to the South Goa district hospital once the CT-scan is tested and commissioned. “We want to complete the trials of the CT-scan in a day or two and shift the casualty and surgery before the weekend”, Dr Deepa said.
To a question on the Covid facility at the South Goa district hospital, officials said the government will take a call on whether to set up a Covid ward at the hospital if the situation warrants. “Right now, Covid cases are on the decline. We have not reported any deaths in the last two days. We want to utilize the mega South Goa district hospital building to offer better services to the patients from South Goa’, the official added.
The Health Minister of the State and Health Director Dr Ira Almeida are on record saying that the government will take a call on starting a Covid facility on the third floor of the South Goa district hospital if the situation warrants. In fact, the Health Minister, during his visit to Hospicio recently had maintained that he and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will take a decision on how to go about opening a Covid facility in Margao if there’s a spurt in Covid infections in the city and its outskirts.
THE RETURN OF COVID SWAB
CENTRE AT DIST HOSPITAL
MARGAO: The Covid swab centre has returned back to the South Goa district hospital on Monday.
Hospicio medical Superintendent Dr Deepa Corriea informed that the Covid swab centre, which was operating from the Nehru stadium, Fatorda has been shifted to the South Goa district hospital.
The Covid swab centre will be open from 8 am to 8 pm every day for RAT and RT-PCR testing.
The South Goa district hospital is equipped with the latest Covid testing machines, with capacity to test around 300 swabs a day. In fact, the Health Minister during his visit to the hospital on Dusshera day had said that the government has equipped the South Goa district hospital with the latest swab testing machines manned by trained personnel.
“We have a testing facility that can test around 300 swabs a day. Right now, we are conducting around 200-250 swabs testing a day on an average. The hospital is equipped with the latest equipment to conduct swab tests”, she added.
