In its over 150-odd history of Hospicio, since the hospital was founded by Dr Padre Miranda, it must have played host to numerous vaccination programmes over the years.
Hospicio doctors and staff are once again bracing up for the much-awaited Covid vaccination exercise starting this weekend.
The century-and-a-half-year-old hospital building must be facing space crunch, but the administration has found space for the people to get their Covid. As per the plan being put in place for the vaccination drive, the Hospicio administration has allocated the pediatric OPD for the Covid vaccination purpose.
The hospital has set up two teams, each comprising five doctors and paramedics to man the centre. As per the schedule, the Covid vaccination will start every day from 9 am to 5 pm.
Given that the vaccination drive is scheduled to roll out from January 16,
Hospicio Medical Superintendent Dr Deepa Correia was on Monday busy overseeing the setting up of the vaccination centre in the hospital.
“We are all ready to start the vaccination drive. The hospital has been involved in so many vaccinations and this drive will be the latest one,” she said.
The Hospital medical superintendent said that the paediatric OPD in Hospicio has been designated as the space for vaccination. “The paediatric OPD has a separate entrance and will be manned by two teams, each team comprising five members,” she added.
With the government putting in place an SOP on how to go about the vaccination exercise, Hospicio is bracing up to vaccinate the health workers first as per the decision, followed by other frontline workers and citizens around 50 years with co-morbidity.
