Citizens entering the Commercial capital were left to fend for themselves as raw sewage water overflowed on to the main road opposite the Hospicio hospital on Thursday morning.
The entire area near the Hospicio junction, exactly near the steps leading to Monte, resembled a pool as raw sewage was seen gushing out of the broken chamber since early morning. While the entire area was enveloped with foul odour, two-wheeler riders were the worst sufferers as they had to protect their legs from the sewage water.
This is not the first time that the sewage chamber was found discharging sewage water on the road.
A senior PWD official, Sewerage informed that the department is issuing a notice to the Hospicio hospital over the matter. “The sewage chamber was overflowing as the underground line got choked. We have found clothes and other waste inside the line, blocking the underground line”, he said.
He said the PWD will send a notice to the Hospicio to take care of the waste disposal to ensure that such incidents do not get repeated in the future. “People were forced to bear the stink and foul odour in the morning. This should not happen again”, the official said.
