Hospicio hospital was in the news again on Wednesday as there was no ambulance around to shift a serious patient from the hospital to the South Goa district Covid hospital.
In fact, the patient was found lying on a stretcher outside the hospital for an hour for want of an ambulance to transport him to the district Covid hospital “ a distance of two kilometers.
That’s not all. When Margao Municipal Councillor Vitorino Tavares called the media at the Hospico to highlight the plight of the patient and the general conditions at the hospital, the security got him and the scribes out of the premises on the ground that media is not allowed inside the premise.
Tavares later told the media that he had brought the patient in a serious condition to the Hospicio on Wednesday morning. “Since the patient has tested positive, we were frantically trying to find an ambulance, but we were told there’s no ambulance around. Since the patient was lying on a stretcher waiting for the hospital staff to shift him to the district hospital, we made inquiries only to be told that Hospicio is facing the problem of drivers”, he said.
‘This government talks about Acche din for the common man. I would like to pose a question to the government whether the Acche din will come to the patient only after he breathe his last”, Tavares said.
He lamented that there was no ambulance at the disposal of the Hospicio when the patient was waiting to be shifted for around an hour. “I do not think that this is Acche din for the common man”, he said.
The MMC councillor also lamented that the Hospicio is trying to keep away the media from covering the hospital just to ensure that the shortcomings are not highlighted by the media. “If the media is barred from entering the Hospicio, just imagine the fate of the common man, he said, while demanding an inquiry into the episode.
