Hotel employee from U’khand drowns at Candolim beach

A 25-year-old hotel employee from Uttarakhand drowned at Candolim beach on Friday morning after he was swept away by strong currents during a staff outing.

The deceased has been identified as Shahid Afridi, who was employed at a hotel in Panaji.

According to police, Afridi had gone to Candolim beach along with his colleagues. During the outing, he entered the sea despite rough conditions and was reportedly swept away by strong currents.

Rescue personnel rushed to the spot, retrieved him from the water and shifted him to a nearby hospital. However, doctors declared him brought dead.

Police have registered a case of unnatural death and are conducting further inquiries into the incident.

The incident comes amid repeated warnings from authorities and lifesaving agencies against venturing into the sea during the monsoon.
