Dy Speaker and Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes in the presence of panch members and villagers launches hot-mix of longest pending Dhawalkhazan beach road, in Agonda.
CANACONA
Repairs and hotmixing of the badly dilapidated road at Dhawalkhazan along the Agonda beachside began on Monday.
Dy Speaker and Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes launched the work in the presence of panch members and locals.
The road along one side of Asia's top beach had been constructed through densely populated areas and tourism structures almost two decades ago and had been in bad shape with several potholes.
Thanking the landlords of the area for permitting authorities to chop down a few coconut trees which were obstacles on the road, Fernandes said the repair and hotmixing of the road was possible mainly due to cooperation from the villagers.
“Former sports minister late Sanjay Bandekar had a dream to develop Agonda village and it is a privilege to take forward his vision by promoting various development works in Agonda.”
“I noticed the bad condition of this road when I was moving in the area to canvass for elections. Since then, I took up this road on priority and after getting cooperation from landlords, the government could finally begin the hotmixing for the road,” said Fernandes.
“The Dhawalkhazan pathway bridge, which is called Borim bridge, is also being taken up for construction as a box bridge after overcoming several hurdles and the work should start within the next 2 months,” the deputy speaker added.
Ward Panch Shilpa Pagui thanked Fernandes for getting government sanction and for launching the long-pending roadwork.
“This road will benefit residents as well as tourists who frequent this world-famous beach,” said Pagui, in the presence of Khola ZP Shanu Velip, other panch members and ex-sarpanch Pramod Phaldessai.
