Saligao MLA Kedar Naik on Saturday inaugurated the hotmixing of internal roads at PDA Colony and Nova Cidade in Porvorim by performing a traditional coconut-breaking ceremony.
The programme was attended by North Goa Zilla President Reshma Bandodkar, Sarpanch of Pilerne–Marra Panchayat Saijal Bandodkar, Deputy Sarpanch Amarnath Govekar, Village Development Committee Convener Karan Govekar, along with panchayat members and local residents.
Speaking on the occasion, Naik said the internal roads in the PDA and Nova Cidade areas had developed numerous potholes and required urgent repairs ahead of the monsoon. He informed that the Public Works Department has undertaken the hotmixing work at an estimated cost of Rs 4.5 crore, fulfilling a long-pending demand of residents.
He further stated that basic amenities such as good roads, reliable power supply, and adequate water facilities remain key priorities. Naik added that most internal roads in Pilerne have already been hotmixed, while the remaining stretches will be completed before the onset of the monsoon.
Providing updates on infrastructure projects, he said that work on a new power substation at Pilerne is nearing completion and efforts are underway to commission it before the monsoon to prevent frequent power disruptions. He also noted that construction of a water treatment plant is progressing rapidly and, once completed, is expected to address water scarcity issues in Pilerne and other villages in the Saligao constituency.
Naik emphasized his commitment to the overall development of the constituency, adding that he has been receiving strong support from local panchayat members.
Sarpanch Saijal Bandodkar and Deputy Sarpanch Amarnath Govekar also addressed the gathering.
