A house was badly damaged in a fire at Mauxi-Sattari on Tuesday.
According to reports, a fire broke out in the house belonging to Devaki Gaonkar. Locals rushed to the spot and made efforts to extinguish the fire.
When their efforts failed, the Valpoi fire station was alerted and a fire tender went to the site and extinguished the fire, which caused extensive damage to household goods.
Locals said Devaki and her son are the only residents in the house and they have been struggling to make ends meet.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane has assured the family of all possible help.
Stating that the family has faced a huge loss, Rane said the process of providing assistance will be initiated as soon as a survey is conducted in this regard.
Local MLA Dr Deviya Rane said efforts would be made to ensure that the family does not face any problem in receiving compensation.
