A one day assembly session will be held on June 4 to decide a new speaker for the Goa Legislative Assembly, Calangute MLA and pro tem speaker Michael Lobo told reporters at the Secretariat on Tuesday. Lobo said that this session will be held at 11 am.
Claiming he was not in the race for the speaker’s post, Lobo said there were many issues faced by the people of his constituency that needed resolving, which he would look into. Lobo also said that the disqualification petition against Health Minister Vishwajit Rane is in its last stage, and the order is already ready. However, since the case is in the Supreme Court, the order has been sent to a team of legal experts for verification.
There were two hearings in the Rane disqualification case. Independent MLA Prasad Gaonkar and BJP MLA Vishwajit Rane’s lawyers have already argued the case. The order is ready and is likely to be passed soon. It will be up to the new speaker to decide what to do in the matter, said Lobo.
The petition was filed by Gaonkar after Rane remained absent during the crucial floor test of the state legislative assembly in March 2017.
There will also be a hearing in the matter of the disqualification petitions filed by MGP MLA Sudin Dhavalikar against the former MGP MLAs Deepak Pauskar and Manohar Ajgaonkar, who have now joined
the BJP.
