Housing plans for slum dwellers in Zuarinagar still pending: MLA

VASCO

Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha has said plans to develop housing facilities for slum dwellers in Zuarinagar did not materialise after the deaths of former chief minister Manohar Parrikar and former Cortalim MLA Matanhy Saldanha.

"I am aware that there was a plan supported by Parrikar and Saldanha to develop housing for the slums in Zuarinagar on humanitarian grounds even though they had not brought the slum dwellers to Zuarinagar,” said Saldanha.

“The huts occupied so much land and they felt it was better if there was a scheme, as in other states, where housing facilities could have been provided to slum dwellers, wherever possible, and at the same time, the land also could be made vacant.”

“The plan was to serve two goals where people could live in better conditions and authorities could get back land occupied by these slums. But both these leaders are no more and no one has pursued the plan," said Saldanha.
