Report to be submitted to TCP higher ups next week

Officials of the Town and Country Planning Department along with Navelim panchayat and local residents on Thursday conducted a joint site inspection of the controversial housing project at Ratwaddo ward.
The TCP representative is expected to submit the report to the higher up, including the Deputy Town Planner by Monday or Tuesday.
The joint inspection comes against the backdrop of the agitation by the local residents, claiming that the project site has no six-metre access road and the site in question is a low-lying catchment area. While the TPC was represented by a technical assistant Fareena Sheikh, Navelim Sarpanch Paul Pereira and the panchayat secretary were present during the inspection.
The housing project had triggered a row in the village after the Panchayat Secretary issued the construction licence to the project proponent by invoking the deeming provisions.
An earlier inspection conducted by the panchayat body led by Sarpanch Pereira did not find a 6-metre wide access road to the site. The inspection had also observed that the land is a low-lying and water catchment area.
Social activist Pratima Coutinho and the residents had demanded a joint inspection after the Panchayat Secretary issued the construction licence by invoking the deeming provision.
