An inspection conducted by the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) at Pedda-Varca has found untreated water being discharged into stormwater drains by business establishments.
Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas, who accompanied the inspection team along with Benaulim ZP member Luiza Rodrigues and former ZP member Joseph Pimenta, said that the ground reality suggests untreated water from a hotel is flowing into the stormwater nullah. “We are not against hotels and other establishments doing business in the Benaulim constituency. However, we want proprietors and owners to follow pollution norms and stop releasing effluents into open drains,” he said.
The Benaulim MLA also made a strong appeal to Goa State Pollution Control Board Chairman Levinson Martins to take strict action against establishments discharging effluents into the drains.
