How was DPR approved sans studying scientific report, questions Yuri

MARGAO

Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao on Sunday said if the Union Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change Bhupendra Yadav says he is yet to study the Scientific Report on Mhadei Diversion, Goans want to know how Environmental Clearance was given to Kalasa Bhandura Project and how DPR was approved without studying the Scientific Report.

He further demanded that the Union Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change must clarify whether any Scientific Study was done before forcing the destructive three linear projects, including Railway double tracking on Goa.

Reacting to the refusal of the Union Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change to speak on the Mhadei diversion, Yuri said he can understand his limitations since the volume of the BJP ministers is controlled in Delhi.

“It is loud and clear that the double engine BJP governments are betraying Goa since coming to power at the Centre and State. The BJP government wants to destroy cultivable lands, finish the fishing activity and hand over Goa to Crony Capitalists. It is proved time and again that every move of the BJP government is anti-Goa," reminded Yuri.

He added: “The three linear projects including Railway double tracking, laying of power transmission line and expansion of national highway are forced on Goa at the cost of massive destruction to the environment just to facilitate Crony Capitalists."

Saying the Central government has now given approval for increasing the capacity of coal handling at Mormugao Port, the Opposition leader said: This was expected as Sagarmala Report has stated that coal handling at MPA will go up to 137 MT. The BJP government is all out to destroy Goa."

Yuri once again appealed to the public to stand united to protect the identity of Goa, saying the time has come to force the government to change all its anti-Goa policies.
