Manickam taken aback after media asks if Congress can take on BJP

MARGAO

Even as Goa Congress desk in-charge, MP Manickam Tagore repeatedly insisted that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has no spine to take on Union Home Minister Amit Shah, he was faced with a media query “ whether the Congress has the spine to take on the BJP-led government.

Taken aback by the question asked by a scribe, Tagore shot back: “Who else will have the spine if the Congress doesn’t have it.”

Tagore sought to put up a united front, apparently pushing the defection episode to the back burner, as he asserted that Congress depends on the party workers and the people. “We are all united and will together fight against the BJP,” he said.

When it was pointed out that Congress appears a demoralized lot after the defection by the eight Congress MLAs, Tagore said the Congress does not depend on the MLAs and MP, but the party draws its strength from the workers and the rank and file. “We are committed to reaching out to the people with our ideals and programmes,” he said.
