Repeater students of Std XII cried foul over the decision of the Goa Board to hold their examinations on August 18-19 and termed the decision as discriminatory when the Board had applied the internal assessment yardstick for the regular students.
The students have now threatened to knock on the doors of the High Court after making a representation to the Goa Board and the government.
Taken aback by the Goa Board’s circular issued on August 5 giving the schedule of the examinations for the repeaters on August 18-19, the students wondered why the Board has adopted two different sets of yardsticks -- one for regular students and another for repeaters.
They also questioned the timing of the examination, demanding to know how the students will prepare for the exams in 10 days.
Addressing the media, Adv Suhas Volvoikar said there maybe around 800 repeaters who have been hit by the decision of the Board.
“How can the Board apply two different sets of guidelines for the regular and repeater students. These students had filled their forms to answer the examinations in April along with the regular students.
While the regular students have cleared the exams based on the internal assessment, the repeater students are now being made to answer the exams on August 18-19,” he said.
One of the students claimed that he had called on Chief Minister
Pramod Sawant, but was only given an assurance the matter will be looked into. “The internal assessment should be considered for repeaters as well. Any set of rules should be applicable for all and in a uniform manner,” he said.
Adv Volvoikar, who is representing the Nationalist Congress Party along with NCP Nuvem Block President Franky D’Mello, has offered the party’s full support to the beleaguered students to ensure that the government extends the internal assessment norm for the repeaters as well.
