A group of women and men organised a protest march in Old Goa on Saturday to condemn the growing incidents of rapes in the State and across the country.

Among the participants included activists Tara Kerkar, Aruna Wagh and Ana Gracias who demanded that the government needs to set a precedence by giving death penalties to rapists if rapes have to decline in the country.

Condemning the growing cases of rapes, Aruna Wagh demanded a change in the system where safety of women would be paramount.

“Crime against women will stop only if the system changes. Also, an example needs to be set by hanging the rapists,” she added.

Criticising the government for doing little to ensure safety of women, Ana Gracias demanded that no leniency should be shown to rapists who should be hanged to death.

Other speakers also demanded swift justice to victims by castration of rapists.
