Interestingly, 25 higher secondary schools have managed to secure a pass percentage of 95 per cent and above.
Addressing a press conference at the Directorate of Education in Porvorim, GBSHSE Chairman J R Rebello said, “If we analyse the HSSC results during the last five years, we see the number of students increasing except 2014 wherein there was a decline because of the fisrt standard admission problem. From last year we have nearly 15,000 students answering HSSC. The results are also showing an increasing trend with last year recording a pass percentage of 88.10 per cent. This indicates that we are witnessing a linear progression. Moreover, the pass percentage of girls is 5 per cent more than the boys even though they were more in number.”
Speaking further, he said, “If the stream-wise results are looked at, there appears to be consistency across all four streams. There is no lopsided result.”
“Since last two years we have been naming the schools which get a passing percentage of more than 95 per cent. This year too the number of schools in this bracket has increased. Of the 97 HSS across the State, 25 have secured passing percentage of 95 per cent and above, many of which are first-timers”, he said.
Additionally, nearly 3119 students have availed of the sports merit marks, of which only 190 have passed the exam with the help these marks which accounts for 1.2 per cent overall.
While the last date to apply for scanned copies of the answer books is May 20, the last date to apply for revaluation is May 27. The last date for verification in absentia is June 13.
“To bring in transparency, we have started a new system of evaluation which we hope will improve the quality of assessment, evaluation and in turn the quality of education. The scanned copies of the evaluated answer sheets will be made available to the students on payment of Rs 50 per paper. They will be emailed to them. But it will be only the student who will be given the copy. The student has to apply through the head of the institution”, informed Rebello.
Speaking about correction of papers through digital means, Rebello stated, “This year we started the practice of correcting papers through digital means. Most of the papers except those like Mathematics and Accountancy which were corrected manually, were scanned and the teachers were evaluating them by marking them directly on the computer. They did not have to maintain a mark-sheet.”
