PONDA: In a shocking incident, a Std 11 vocational student at a higher secondary school in Ponda allegedly stabbed a senior of the same school twice in the abdomen with a dissection knife in broad daylight opposite PES College campus at Farmagudi on Thursday, seriously injuring the youth.
The accused later surrendered to Ponda Police, while the HSSC student is in ICU at Goa Medical College Hospital in Bambolim.
According to DySP Sunita Sawant, the accused student from Silvanagar-Ponda has confessed to committing the crime and also told that he used a dissection knife to stab the victim.
"We are investigating the case from all angles to ascertain how he was armed with a dissection knife, which is usually used by science students," she said.
Police was yet to recover the knife used in the crime till Thursday evening.
DySP Sawant informed that the incident took place near the bus stand in Farmagudi. "The victim's father has filed a complaint stating that his son was stabbed by the student from Class 11," she said.
Sources informed that enmity was brewing between both students since the Chaturthi festival period. The victim had used his mobile phone to record a video clip of the accused reportedly setting off fire crackers in the higher secondary campus.
Sources further informed that the accused feared that the victim would show it to teachers and requested him to delete the video clip.
On Thursday afternoon, both entered into an argument over the issue. "Basically, he (accused) wanted confirmation that the video clip was deleted," a police source said.
The accused then stabbed the victim twice in front of many people. The victim, who sustained injuries on his abdomen, walked to a private hospital, but doctors told him to go to Sub District Hospital as the injuries were serious. He was shifted to the GMC.
The accused fled from site and the victim's father notified the police about the incident. The police then contacted the parents of the accused. They then accompanied the accused to the police station, where he surrendered.
An offence has been registered under Section 307 of Indian Penal Code. Police were in the process of sending the accused to Apna Ghar, as police investigations are in progress.
