Human rights body seeks explanation on Dabolim PS operating from tin shed

The Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) on Friday issued a notice to Director General of Police Alok Kumar, seeking a response to allegations that the Dabolim airport police station continues to function out of a makeshift tin shed.

Taking suo motu cognisance of a media report, the GHRC directed the DGP to submit a reply by July 15. He has also been asked to appear before the Commission on the same day, either in person or through a representative.

According to the report, the police station, comprising around 30 personnel, has been operating from the temporary structure for nearly eight years, despite repeated assurances of a permanent facility.

The station has one Police Inspector, three Police Sub-Inspectors, three Assistant Sub-Inspectors, head constables and constables. The roof reportedly leaks, putting furniture and official documents at risk. Personnel are reportedly often forced to remain outside due to lack of space inside the structure.
