CANACONA
In his homily at the Feast Mass, the main celebrant, Fr Mathew Fernandes, Sfx, Provincial of the Goa Province of Pilar Fathers, remarked that the life of St Anne is incomplete without her husband St Joachim.
“God blessed St Anne at her advanced age with a child Mary. And as promised to God, the couple devoted Mary at God’s service at a very young age of 3 years. Mary was blessed to become the mother of Jesus Christ. Do not leave hope, live a pious and just life, let us all seek the blessings as per our needs through the intercession of St Anne,” said Fr Mathew.
Other priests concelebrating at the Feast Mass were Anjuna Parish Priest Fr Santiago Fernandes, Agonda Parish Priest Fr Patrick Luis, Assistant Parish Priest Fr Darrell Fernandes and Chaudi Church Assistant Parish Priest Fr Newton.
The statue of St Anne was later taken in a procession, as the large number of devotees participating in the Feast Mass lined up to venerate the statue.
Incidentally, different priests, including those hailing from Agonda, celebrated the Masses during the nine-day Novena. No fire-crackers or fire-bombs of any nature were used during the Novena or Feast Day.
Later on Saturday night, ‘Chor’ a Konkani drama by comedian Joyel was staged by the Fabrica da Igreja de Agonda in aid of the Church activities.
