Threatening a hunger strike if funds are not given to the newly formed panchayat within 15 days, the Quelossim Panchayat and residents have also expressed concern over movement of heavy vehicles along the narrow roads in the village.
Both the issues, which were highlighted in The Goan, dominated the Quelossim gram sabha on Sunday.
It may be recalled that The Goan had highlighted that development works in Quelossim Panchayat were hampered due to non-availability of funds.
The panchayat also resolved to go on hunger strike if funds are not received from the Cortalim Panchayat despite the order of the Director of Panchayat.
Speaking to the media, Sarpanch Maria Sousa said there was no scope of development due to lack of funds and the villagers felt it was injustice done to the new panchayat despite legal order and directions given by the Director of Panchayat.
"The villagers have assured me of their support on this issue and we have
adopted a resolution to go on a hunger strike if funds are not received in 15 days," said Sousa.
Another issue that witnessed heated discussion was the helplessness of the panchayat over movement of heavy vehicles along the internal road of Quelossim from Toyota Showroom on the highway connecting to the district road despite boards preventing movement of heavy vehicles on both sides of the road.
A gram sabha member, Lopinho Xavier questioned the accident involving a truck on internal road right outside the house of ward panch that would have killed several people if railings were not strong and had the truck not got stuck in the mango tree along the slope after it turned to its sides.
The movement of heavy vehicles along internal roads was also highlighted by The Goan on 12 December.
"I had approached Verna Police and also PI Traffic Roy Pereira, who has assured to take some action," said Souza.
