MARGAO
Mahila Congress chief Pratima Coutinho on Sunday said though the Congress mahilas were hurt and disappointed over the denial of the South Goa ticket to her by the party leadership, the entire Mahila organization will put their heart and soul in the campaign for the party candidates in both the North and South Goa Lok Sabha constituencies.
Addressing the media in the presence of Goa Mahila Congress observer, Apsara Reddy, at the South district office, Pratima conceded that she was hurt over the denial of the South Goa ticket to her when the party leadership has been talking about 33 per cent reservation for women.
She, however, hastened to add that she and her mahilas will abide by the party decision of nominating Francisco Sardinha for the ticket. “It is a fact there were two candidates for the South Goa seat, me and former MP Francisco Sardinha. The party in its wisdom has decided to give the ticket to Sardinha. Though I am hurt over the decision, I believe that politics is not about individuals, but the party as a whole,” Pratima said, adding that she and her mahilas will be present in strength when the party candidates file their nomination papers for the two seats.
When the media sought to know whether she would hit the campaign for the South Goa Lok Sabha candidate, Pratima said she and her Mahila Congress will attend all meetings as well as participate in the campaign of the South Goa candidate.
Mahila Congress in-charge, Apsara Reddy, said that since the party leadership has decided the ticket in favour of Sardinha, the mahilas will all join the election campaign of the South Goa candidate.
National Coordinator Dr Seema Fernandes echoed similar sentiments saying that the mahilas will all support the party Lok Sabha candidates.
