PORVORIM
Breaking his silence over his role in the latest political development, Khaunte issued a press note to clarify that in the post-result scenario of a fractured mandate, Goa Forward Party and MGP decided to support BJP.
“Congress was unable to decide on its leadership, with insights showing instability towards giving continued governance in Goa. It became clear that Congress will not be able to form the government,” said Khaunte.
“In this scenario, I had two choices “ to sit in the opposition for next five years or be in the government by supporting it. I consulted many of my supporters and they unanimously said ‘we have elected you to bring prosperity and development to Porvorim, which can be best achieved by being in the government,’” said Khaunte.
“While it was a tough call for me, as we all have fought the election against the BJP, after a careful thinking and extensive deliberations, I opted to swallow my pride and support the government in the interest of development of Porvorim and Porvorkars,” stated Khaunte.
“I am sure those of you who I could not consult personally will see this decision in the right perspective. I have not joined the BJP but am supporting the government for the betterment of Porvorim,” stated the press note.
When The Goan reminded Khaunte that most voters from the minority community who had voted for him felt a sense of betrayal, Khaunte replied: “I am fully aware of it and I respect their sentiments. I will ensure that their interests are fully protected.”
