Having to witness their house collapse in the 2019 floods was traumatic enough, but the Madkar family from Ibrampur-Pernem had the misfortune of being affected by floods yet again, when their one-room home, which was rebuilt two years ago, was damaged in the floods on Friday.

The house belonging to Devendra Madkar which collapsed in the floods on 2019 has nevery been rebuilt and he could only manage to built one room for their shelter.

Madkar said their home, which once provided shelter to 25 family members, had been destroyed in floods after water was released from the Tillari Dam, causing the water to overflow from the Chapora River.

He claimed to have received just Rs 1 lakh from CM's Relied Fund, but said it was insufficient to rebuild their collapsed house.

“Some family members have moved elsewhere, but many family members are financially weak and are still looking out for a home,” said Madkar.

Madkar managed to build a small room near the collapsed house and while he yet to overcome the trauma of having lost his home in 2019, another disaster struck when his one room also got damaged in the floods on Friday.

"Many leaders had showed up two years ago when our house collapsed, but except for locals hardly anyone helped us in our distress. The government provided us a meagre amount of Rs 1 lakh as compensation but that is not enough to build another house to accommodate all our family members,” said Madkar.

“Some family members built houses elsewhere, but I am not financially capable of building a new house. That Rs 1 lakh compensation which we received is still in the bank and we have not withdrawn the amount. How much will we get if we divide Rs 1 lakh among 25 family members?”

“I managed to build a small room, but rains and floods on Friday damaged that room as well,” lamented Madkar.

Mission for Locals member Rajan Korgaonkar visited the family on the day of the floods and also offered immediate aid in the form of grains, pulses and other daily groceries.
