Shel Melauli locals have warned that the agitation against the proposed IIT plan will continue till the project is moved.
A large group of people gathered at Shel Melauli on Saturday and strongly opposed the IIT project. They also criticized the government and Health Minister.
They have also slammed the local MLA for misguiding the villagers on the Zilla Panchayat election results.
The local MLA had said that all three BJP candidates from Sattari taluka won with a high margin of votes which proves that people of Sattari are completely supporting the IIT project which is totally wrong, said Shubham Shivolkar adding that people voted for the BJP and not the IIT project.
The people of Sattari taluka have appealed to the locals for support to the agitation to save the land of Bhumiputras in the area.
Convener of the agitation Shashikant Savardekar said that the local MLA is holding a press conference and making a statement regarding the IIT project in Panaji. He challenged the MLA if he has the courage, he should come to Shel Melauli and hold a press conference and make a statement in support of IITs. He also said the citizens in the area and those opposing the project have not parted ways with the agitation.
Farmer Ram Melekar requested the government to pay serious attention to the issue of land ownership in Sattari taluka. "From the point of view of making India self-reliant, there is no land in the name of the people of Sattari taluka, so how can the farmers become self-reliant?" Melekar questioned.
Speaking to the media, Convener of Melauli Bachao Committee Shahsiknat Sawardekar said that if required a morcha and agitation will also be undertaken to chief minister's official resident if this project is not relocated. "The government should not underestimate our people regarding the IIT project," he added.
