IIT project opponents up the ante
Captured by : Yet another meet convened to oppose IIT project

CANACONA

Continuing their tirade against the proposed IIT project, the anti-lobby convened yet another meeting at Polem on Sunday.

The meeting, attended also by ex-ZP member Daya Pagui, again resolved to oppose the proposed IIT on Bhagwati plateau or any anywhere else in the village.

The speakers were particularly aggrieved against the panchayat for threatening the locals. “People coming openly against the IIT are threatened with retaliatory tactics at the panchayat and comunidade level,” alleged a resident.

The anti-IIT lobby also requested people to come out strongly in the gram sabha on Wednesday.

While a special gram sabha is scheduled on Wednesday to discuss environmental and economic issues of the village, it is also rumoured that some officials related to IIT will visit the village and meet elected panchas along with a maximum of five of their representatives from each ward to hear grievances and concerns over the proposed IIT campus at Bhagwati Plateau.
