The platform that was raised to put up an illegal kiosk near the KTC bus stand has been left behind after the structure was lifted away.
MARGAO: As the raging controversy over the illegal gadda near the KTC bus stand was capped after the owner removed the structure, the Margao Municipal Council is now bracing up to conduct a survey of all the illegal gaddas near the Margao bus stand from Monday.
Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes said his order mandates the Municipal inspectors to conduct a survey of the illegal gaddas and report back to him within seven days. “Though the illegal gadda has been removed, the survey ordered by him will take place”, he said, adding that any illegal gadda found near the KTC bus stand will be removed by the civic body.
To a question, the MMC Chief Officer said there is no proposal at the moment to conduct a survey of illegalities in the municipal markets, including the Gandhi Market and the New Market. “My order issued to the municipal market inspectors is specific, to survey the gaddas near the KTC bus stand and initiate action”, he added.
The illegal gadda had kicked up a huge row with Deputy Chief Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar demanding action against all the illegal gaddas in the city if the MMC removes the gadda in question near the KTC bus stand. Ajgaonkar had even raised the issue whether gaddas can come up along the roadside when the very same kiosks were all removed from the road sides upon the orders of the High Court around 20 years ago.
Ajgaonkar got his relative lift away the illegal gadda on Thursday night which helped to cap the massive row over the illegal gadda issue, more so when the Margao Civic Alliance-controlled Margao Municipal Council charged the police for refusing protection to remove the gadda. In fact, MMC Chairperson Lyndon Pereira had also charged the Dy Chief Minister for trying to make Fatorda another Gandhi Market, urging the people of Fatorda to stall any such move by defeating the BJP in the 2022 Assembly election.
