Godinho was speaking during an inspection of the junction near MES college at Chicalim along with national highway officials.
In a bid to avoid a long turn from the MES college junction, the concrete road divider was illegally opened at the Valles junction and that has led to a number of mishaps.
Following repeated demands from locals to close the illegal opening of the road divider, Godinho inspected the junction and expressed concern over frequent mishaps in the area.
“I have instructed national highway authorities to immediately seal this illegal opening in order to prevent further accidents,” the minister said.
The residents also informed the minister that many minor mishaps were taking place at the MES college junction and demanded the installation of traffic signals and presence of traffic police. Those accompanying Godinho during the inspection included national highways engineer Doddamani, Mormugao Deputy Collector Mahadev Arondekar, Mamlatdar Satish Prabhu, PI Nolasco Raposo, RTO officer Roy Pereira, Chicalim sarpanch Seby Pereira, deputy sarpanch Kamlaprasad Yadav and Zuari Agro Chemicals PRO Anand Rajyadhyaksha.
