MARGAO
Mohammedan Sporting Club, Kolkata blanked Salgaocar FC 2-0 in the Nike Premier Cup Under-15 Youth League at Panchayat ground, Nagoa on Sunday. The Kolkata team led 1-0 at the breather.
Mohammedan Sporting held the upper hand in both the sessions. However it was Salgaocar who created a flutter when Ribhav Sardessai's rasping shot missed the target narrowly. Surajuddin Munshi scored the opener in the 45th minute and again in the 47th minute to heap more misery on the Greens.
However, soon the Mohammedan goal was under attack as Aaron Barreto and Levy Pereira charged through their defences with brilliant passing only to disappoint the fans as the latter failed to score. The Kolkatta outfit's in-form striker Surajuddin had his first clear shot on goal in the 10th minute of the match but his attempt hit the woodwork. Mohammedan custodian Aftab Alam’s services were called upon as Fhezer Gomes sent a long-ranger from 25 yards out which the former collected well. Surajuddin got his name on the scoresheet in the first half’s dying minutes as Giasuddin sent a cross in from the right for the striker to put it past Antonio D’Silva. The teams headed in for half-time as Mohammedan lead the proceedings by a solitary goal.
The second half didn’t begin too well for the Goan outfit as Munshi completed his brace in less than two minutes of the re-start. After this both the teams struggled to come up with any good moves to unsettle the opposing citadel. The game ended with Mohammedan seating on a 2-0 victory over Salgaocar FC.
