IMD forecasts heavy rains for next 4 days, issues orange alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted moderate to heavy rainfall at most places during the next four days (July 2 to 5) even as it has issued an orange (be prepared) weather alert in the State.

Issuing a weather warning, the IMD has said that heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely at a few places for the next four days.

With southwest monsoon firming its grip, most places in the State witnessed heavy to moderate rainfall on Saturday.

In the last 24 hours, the highest amount of rainfall was reported from Mormugao (124 mm) and the lowest at Sanquelim (56.2 mm).

The following was the rainfall reported from other centres: Mapusa (71 mm), Pernem (60.8), Ponda (70), Panaji (91.8), Old Goa (66.2), Valpoi (66.3), Canacona (112.6), Dabolim (98.4), Margao (97.8), Quepem (60.8) and Sanguem (97.4 mm).

The State received an average of 85.6 mm of rain in the last 24 hours further reducing the seasonal deficit to 22.8 per cent.

The Met department has also said that squally weather with wind speed 40-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph is likely along and off South Maharashtra - Goa coast from July 2 to 5.

Reports of landslide and tree falls continue to be reported from various parts of the State as several places reported heavy rainfall on Saturday.
