VASCO: A Navy sailor posted at Vasco was killed in a scuffle with his wife on Sunday morning. Kaushalendra Pratap Singh (33) was declared brought dead on arrival at INHS Jeevanti (Naval hospital), according to Mormugao DySP Sunita Sawant.
The couple along with their 7-year-old daughter was residing at Varunapuri residential quarters for family of Naval sailors.
As per information received, Kaushalendra and his wife Sandhya Chauhan (32) got into a heated argument which subsequently turned ugly early Sunday morning. Sources said that Sandhya in a fit of rage hit Kaushalendra with a wooden object on the head, allegedly killing him on the spot.
DySP Sunita Sawant said, "We received a call at around 7.40 am from INHS Jeevanti informing us about a male patient, Kaushalendra Pratap Singh, who was brought to the hospital at around 5 am. He was declared brought dead on arrival and that he had injury marks on his head. Vasco police rushed to hospital where the deceased's wife Sandhya was present.
Questioned by the police, Sandhya revealed that, Kaushalendra who had been posted in Goa for the last two years, would regularly harass and assault her under the influence of alcohol. She said that Kaushalendra came home late on Saturday night late and created a ruckus, breaking household items and pushing their minor daughter to the floor. In a major fight that developed, Kaushalendra who was intoxicated, began assaulting Sandhya with a wooden object. Sandhya retaliated and in a fit of rage hit him on his head bringing Kaushalendra down to the floor. He was hit once again while he lay on the floor, causing excessive bleeding.
Panicked as Kaushalendra lay motionless, Sandhya called up Kaushalendra's friend Abhishek Kumar and told him about the incident that had taken place at home. Kumar along with others came to the house at about 5 am and shifted Kaushalendra to INHS Jeevanti in an ambulance where he was declared brought dead.
"We have registered an offence under section 302 and secured custody of Sandhya and further investigations are going on. The body has been preserved for post-mortem which will be conducted on Monday and we have contacted the kin of the deceased in Ferozabad, Uttar Pradesh. This is a case of domestic violence between husband and wife," said Sawant.
