In the absence of any beggar home or a shelter home to house the beggars, the Fatorda police on Wednesday took all the beggars arrested on Tuesday to the Margao railway station to facilitate them to head to their respective states.
The Fatorda police further decided to patrol the entire Old Market area, right from the Holy Spirit Church to the Old Market circle and the adjoining SGPDA grounds, to ensure that the beggars and their children do not return to the place and create a nuisance for the locals.
While around 10 women beggars, who were carrying around 12 children, were released on Tuesday evening, the seven male beggars were produced before the court on Wednesday morning and released on bail.
Left with no option, after realisation dawned that there’s no official shelter home for beggars, the police are believed to have transported the beggars to the railway station.
“Whether they will prefer to head to their native states or not, we do not know, but the Fatorda police will maintain a close vigil around the Old Market area to ensure that the beggars do not resurface again in the locality,” PI Kapil said.
The Holy Spirit boys have also decided to work in coordination with the local police to ensure that miscreants and beggars do not loiter around the Old Market area.
Alison Morenas informed that the local boys will assist the police if they come across any beggars around the Old Market area.
The police action came after a 28-year-old native of Bihar vandalised some of the flower pots in front of the Holy Spirit Church late Sunday.
Local residents later complained that beggars swarm the Old Market area, including the area around the Church, creating a nuisance for the residents of the locality and motorists.
