Allergy, asthma screening prog

Move to deny access to river hailed
PONDA: Bethora-Nirankal Panch Prasad Prabhugaonkar has welcomed Agriculture Minister Vijai Sardessai’s quick decision in directing his officials to stop picnickers from using the department’s property as access to visit Codar river, which has claimed several lives in recent times.
Sardesai on Tuesday had instructed the agriculture director to initiate steps to restrict the entry from agriculture property at Codar.
Prabhugaonkar had earlier blamed agriculture officers for failing to stop public from using the department property to access picnic spots along the Codar river.
“I am thankful to minister Vijai Sardesai for taking steps in this regards. He has taken the right decision which will save lives,” Prabhugaonkar said.
Ravi calls for auction of shops, offices
PONDA: Ponda MLA Ravi Naik has asked the chief officer of Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) to expedite the process of conducting an auction to lease shops and offices in the market complex.
Naik on Thursday convened a meeting with the officers of PMC and GSUDA. PMC Chief Officer Navanath Naik, senior project engineer GSUDA John Abreu, project engineer Amit Shirodkar and others were present.
“About 123 shops and offices are to be auctioned. If the process is expedited, the PMC will earn additional revenue,” the MLA said.
It may be recalled that the PMC had resolved to auction shops and offices in the market complex building in its meeting in April.
Naik has also asked the GSUDA officials to undertake work of the parking project, which is a part of the market complex.
Naik further said every effort would be made to help the PMC earn additional revenue.
Sulaxana Vernekar awarded PhD
MARGAO: At the recently held convocation of Goa University, Assistant Professor from Gopal Govind Pai Raiturkar College of Commerce and Economics, Farmagudi, Prof Sulaxana Ramlal Vernekar was awarded a PhD by the Governor Mridula Sinha.
Prof Vernekar carried research work in the department of Electronics of Goa University under the guidance of Prof Gaurish Nayak. The title of her thesis was, ‘Design and Development for Smart Soil Monitoring System Using Embedded Techonology.’ She has published 15 research papers in international journals and has presented 4 papers at international seminars/conferences and 7 in national and state-level workshops, informs a press release.
