Acknowledging and appreciating the sacrifices of catechists, Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrão exhorted them to inculcate the three basic attitudes of faith, joy and humility.

He was addressing the catechists while presiding at the Holy Eucharistic celebration to mark the Catechetical Day which was celebrated at the diocesan level with religious fervour at the St Christopher’s Church, Tivim, on February 2.

Other concelebrants at the Mass were Fr Leonard D’Souza (episcopal vicar for Central Goa and in-charge of faith formation of laity), Fr Adolf Alvares (Dean of Bicholim Deanery), Fr Romeu Godinho (Director of Diocesan Catechetical Centre), Fr Savio Pinto, Fr Mariano Silveira, Fr Jollyson Fernandes and other priests from the Bicholim Deanery.

In His homily, Fr Leonard D’Souza reminded the faithful that Jesus is the Light of the world and catechists are called to be the Light of Christ and to spread the Light of Christ through their deeds and words to others.

While imparting a final message to the catechists Archbishop Ferrão acknowledged and appreciated the sacrifices of the 71 catechists from the deaneries of Aldona, Bicholim, Siolim and Pernem, who were felicitated for witnessing to the Light of Christ.

He exhorted them to inculcate three basic attitudes in their lives: Attitude of faith, attitude of joy and attitude of humility. During the event, Tina Fernandes from Tormas shared her experience as a catechist.
