The Indian Coast Guard executed a successful medical evacuation for a 53-year-old Mexican national named Fernando Cruz Mendez, who suffered a heart attack aboard the cruise vessel Celebrity Millennium, located 40 kilometers off the coast of Goa on Monday evening.
Following the distress call, the Coast Guard coordinated the transfer of Mendez to a private facility in Chicalim, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.
According to a statement released by the Coast Guard Headquarters in Goa, upon receiving the emergency call, the ICGS C-158, which was on area patrol, was immediately diverted to assist Mendez. The ship reached alongside the cruise vessel at 9:30 PM and embarked on the medevac mission.
At approximately 9:40 PM, ICGS C-158 transferred Mendez, along with his wife and a medical attendant, from the cruise ship and set course towards Mormugao Harbour. The vessel arrived at Mormugao Harbour by 11:30 PM, where Mendez was handed over to an ambulance provided by the port agent for further medical care.
