Naibag Junction: Locals demand flyover as former MLA's promises hit a roadblock

Naibag Junction: Locals demand flyover as former MLA's promises hit a roadblock

Following a recent tragic accident at the Naibag junction in Poraskadem, Pernem, local residents and authorities are urgently advocating for the construction of a flyover to address the longstanding safety concerns in the area.

During a visit to the Naibag junction on Tuesday, community members and officials from Pernem gathered to assess the situation and emphasize the pressing need for a flyover. The junction has earned notoriety as an accident-prone zone, witnessing a distressing number of fatal incidents due to the absence of a flyover.

Expressing frustration over the lack of action, residents voiced their grievances and called upon the government to take immediate responsibility for ensuring public safety.

A local resident remarked, "Babu Azgaonkar, the former MLA of Pernem, promised us that the flyover would be completed in due time. However, with its delay, accidents have only intensified. The former MLA must be held accountable for the tragedies and damage incurred along this route."

Despite efforts to raise the issue in the legislative assembly by Pernem MLA Pravin Arlekar, tangible progress has been lacking. However, authorities have pledged interim measures to enhance safety, including the installation of traffic signals at Poraskade and Don Khamb Dhargal prior to the commencement of flyover construction.

Addressing the concerns, Arlekar stated, "Several accidents, including one resulting in a fatality, have marred the highway. The absence of a service road exacerbates the risks for commuters. I have urged the Chief Minister to investigate this matter, and assurances have been provided regarding the timely completion of the flyover, along with the installation of traffic signals at critical points."
